Twitter Threading

Twitter maintains message threading, which can be used to follow the chain of replies backwards in time. Of course, your Twitter client application must specify the message to which it is a response (the in_reply_to_status_id parameter). The Twitter API also requires that the response include the original author’s @username in the reply text.

Nambu has a very elegant message threading display, but I disable that in favor of pure chronological order. Here’s a tip when trying to figure out what someone is replying to: Open the response message on twitter.com, then follow the “in reply to” links beneath the status update. Here’s a very short screen capture of this in action:

While getting more specific about the installation, I’ve revised the circuit as shown:

circuit

There are, in fact, two Coleman powered coolers in the back of the vehicle. Currently, one of them is plugged into a 12 VDC outlet in the cargo area; the other is plugged into a power socket on the console (snaking the cord under the back seats). The new circuit provides local power connections for the refrigerators, and includes a voltage display so the charge of the deep cycle battery can be checked.

Qty Price Desc Source Specs
1 $129.00 Trojan 27TMX deep cycle battery Battery Systems 27TMX
1 $84.50 Automatic isolation switch PowerStream
1 $30.14 LCD voltage display 6-18 VDC DigiKey PDF
2 $2.66 Automotive power socket, panel mount w/ lock nut DigiKey PDF
1 $2.55 Automotive power plug, internal screw terminals DigiKey PDF
1 $6.11 6-stud (#10-32) junction block 30A Wiring Products
1 $5.04 16 ga. crimp ring terminal Wiring Products
2 $5.75 16 ga. stranded wire Wiring Products

At a cost of $274.16, it’s a bit pricey. It beats having a dead battery every morning though.

Ah. Okay. Buh-bye.

I received an instant message from anastasiablanton via Yahoo! this morning. I assumed it was a friend of mine, since I know someone with a similar username. The conversation went as follows:

A chat with anastasiablanton

When I saw the duplicate autoresponse to my IM containing the keyword “Facebook,” I realized it wasn’t a human. Good grief.

Reunion Weekend Wrap-up

My 20-year high school reunion was this weekend. Heather, Brittney, and I drove up from Newbury Park on Friday morning in her cute little red Honda with our bikes on the back. She brought her trusty old Diamond Back mountain bike, instead of her kick ass, full-carbon Specialized Ruby. I brought my beater Cannondale R700 Triple, instead of my sweet LeMond Maillot Jaune. Anyway, we got to my folks’ house in San Luis Obispo at lunchtime. Mom, dad, Heather, and I drove to Morro Bay to kayak around the bay (Brittney said she would rather take a nap). We paddled from the embarcadero down to the marina and saw some awfully tame wildlife. After drying off a bit, we went to Bayside Cafe for some fish ‘n’ chips. We finished that off with a tres leche cake and boysenberry crisp — so good.

We went back to the house and played Pictionary with Dan and Cherie. The teams were boys vs. girls, and we totally crushed them! After the family funtime, we watched Kenny. We all thought it was quite a hoot. I recommend it highly, and consider it to be the Citizen Kane of portable sanitation unit worker movies. We called it a night climbed into bed.

On Saturday morning, Heather and I rode our bikes down to Avila Beach via Foothill, Los Osos Valley Road, Higuera, Ontario, and the Bob Jones Trail. The weather was perfect and we didn’t get any flats, which I consider a huge success. We met up with mom, dad, and Brittney at the beach for a picnic. On the way back, we stopped at the doggie spa to get Brittney’s nails trimmed. She was a little angel on the table. It’s worth every penny. Mom and dad cooked up a fantastic early dinner; tri-tip and homegrown beets and carrots. It was tremendous. We finished that off with a perfect nectarine cobbler made with some absolutely perfect fruit.

Heather and I get spiffed up for the reunion, which was held at Native Lounge on Chorro near the mission. It’s a nice venue. It makes a better bar than a restaurant. It was Sebastian’s in 1989. We got our name tags and mingled around, by which I mean that we got some drinks and staked out a comfortable couch. It was nice to see familiar faces and get caught up with people that I literally hadn’t spoken with in 20 years. I was somewhat surprised at who wasn’t there. It was also interesting to experience the event sober — I actually remember what happened. The conversations I had with people were often amazing, mostly because the places that I would have predicted some people ending up are the complete opposite of reality. Then again, some people didn’t surprise me at all.

Shortly after the joint opened up the ropes for the general public, Heather and I went back to pick up Brittney and drive home. She had to be at work at the spa at 0830 hrs on Sunday morning. I slept all day. It was too hot to work. It’s still flaming hot in my office. I’ve missed stage 14 and 15 of the Tour being away, so I’ll have to catch up on the rest day. It would be nice if Versus.com didn’t suck so hard.

I regret not saying hello to everyone I should have, however I have that feeling after every event I go to; it’s a feeling with which I’m quite familiar. I also feel like if anybody really cared to know what was going on in my life, it would be pretty damned easy with all my blogs, tweets, and snarky comments on social networking sites. See? Aren’t you glad that I didn’t say hello? Heh.

I swear, I don’t watch Glamour TV. Much. Anymore.

If I ever got my hands on Anna Faris, I’d… well, let’s just say you’d hear about it on the news.
